In this recording the Sollini – Barbatano Piano Duo (who already released two Concerto Classics productions such as Gioachino Rossini's "Complete chamber
music with piano" CD 2076, and Sergej Rachmaninov's "Piano works for four and six hands" CD 2073) performs the world premiere of the Sinfonia in F major
for piano at four hands transcribed by Pietro Mascagni and discovered in 2004 by Marco Sollini himself. With the advent of the 150th birth anniversary of Pietro
Mascagni, this CD presents the 13 solo piano pieces too by the great opera composer, among which the first version of the famous Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana as well as the world premiere of three pieces: "Mio primo Valzer" (My first Valzer) arranged by Anton Seidel, a fragment of "Un pensiero a San Francisco" (A thought to San Francisco) and "New World processional (Triumphal March)". The introduction is by Cesare Orselli, reviewer and music historian, one of the best and talented specialist of Pietro Mascagni.
